Dilema in educational system (Gusto kong ibagsak pero takot ako sa principal)

There are many high school students being passed in every year level of high school. This is not because they really pass the test, examination, recitation, projects etc but rather because of the fear in that their performance bonus will got deduction as penalty. Any failed student in your advisory or classroom will have equivalent performance to the teacher. This system in our public education have produce unqualified high school graduates. Let me tell you the process.

If the classroom teachers failed more than three student in his/her advisory, she will be scolded and threaten of deduction in her performance known as Revised Performance Appraisal System (RPAS). This RPAS score is equivalent to money, bonus or productivity pay. Teacher who dare to failed more students (which they deserved) will received less productivity pay and reprimand from principal and superintendent. Who want to be reprimanded anyway?

Why the teachers are being punish for student failure?
Any number of failed or drop students will replect to the principal performance, to the supervisor performance until the highest level. So is there anyone wanted to have deduction in their productivity pay and performance level for the failure of irresponsible student. Bahala na ang student, kung gusto mong matuto dito sa classroom, kung ayaw mong matuto bahala ka sa buhay mo. Perhaps the DepEd should inquire or study (researc) the action/s of many teachers if they found the student who are intellectually capable but nagpapabaya in their academics.
I believe there many students like this because I am a teacher too (There is a need to study the statistics of intellectually capable student who are pabaya in their academics) . Filipino students are bright yet they use it in other way. Instead of reading advance, normal student can be found somewhere. (Study again the statistics of public high school who study at home and who spent their precious time somewhere). In short any number of failed students will replect to the performance of higher official (accumulated since there are many sections and year levels) and eventually DEDUCT OF CHANCE OF PROMOTION both in principal, supervisor and superintendent.

Many reasons of factors why the student failed the grades. One which i believe is lack of right attitude. (because i came from poor family too yet i succeed in academics).Determination is not found in each student and most of the poor student always used economic status as their alibi. Seconddly, games of any kinds. computer, chat, TV, barkadas, separated parents etc. parents support is one. Actually the DepED doesnt not have research about the ranking of factors regarding student failure in the academics. It so hard to force the student to study as well the parent to force their children to study right? It is better to return the traditional punishment system just to improve education (palo and pahiya sa klase pag hindi nag aral).

Can teacher give me factors affecting student failure in their academics. Your suggestions are welcome here..

PGMA to increase public teachers salary

With just three years left in her term, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is already thinking on how history books will depict her and how she will be remembered.

Now entering into what many call her “legacy years”, the president recently stated that she plans to spend her remaining years in the office focusing on improving the quality of our graduates by modernizing the country’s education system.

Higher teacher pay, more scholarships for gifted students and better English language training.”
To ensure that her vision for a more globally-competitive Filipino students and graduates come true, the President stated that she plans to ask Congress to increase education’s budget by P29 billion next year. This increase, stated Ms. Arroyo, will be used to, among others, provide students with quality textbooks and grant loans to needy students.

The President explains that education reform is the only way poverty, the country’s other great problem, can be truly addressed. According to her, education is “a strategic and sustainable solution to poverty” and “knowledge is the great creator of wealth”. If the country wishes to improve its dire conditions, it has no other choice but to improve the quality of education its students gets.
PGMA finally understand the important of quality and goal oriented education. However, is she late already to prioritize this plan. Imagine, she stayed in the office almost two terms. Once again PGMA, its officials and the DEPED never bother asking the teacher what we need to provide quality education.

Manila (DPA) - The Department of education has stopped the distribution of sex-education modules to public high schools following strong opposition by the Roman Catholic Church, an official said Sunday.
We ordinary classroom teachers normally do not get the voice in the Department of Education, press and also in the national government. This is the place where you can view ideas and opinion in this matter. Comments are welcome here

Reengineering of Educational System

'Reengineering' of educational system in RP has begun...
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said yesterday that he has begun "reengineering the entire education system" to make it more responsive in the delivery of quality education.
Yes re-engineering of eduacational system is very much awaited by the DepEd teacher yet after the publication of this news nothing change in the classroom of the ordinary teachers. Well at least here in our division, perhaps in other places. I am inviting teacher to give opinion and ideas to help Sec Lapus what should be the needed changes in our Educational system specially in the delivery of education objectives. Teachers voice your opinion here....

Teacher Band Performing Live Regulary (thats talents)

I saw them first during last year Sinulog Night where the DepEd is the host. Its quite impressive that this teachers (in various major) are so talented in playing musical instruments. This team are the DepEd's entertainers during sports and cultural festival.

MIND you, the teachers' band is performing every Friday night at the Kayamocats restobar somewhere in the Cebu city north reclamation area. Its repertoire gets updated from time to time and the singers and musicians could play all types of music genre, according to their band leader Slavsky Ybañez who is actually the division music coordinator.

The band members are vocalists Paul Calbang, Nicolas Acaso, Phoebe Sasuman, Cecile Agbay, Joan Cabigas and Monalisa Opsima, guitarists Edison de la Pena and Chiqui Libradilla, bass guitarist Ramon Velos, drummer Nilo Mamac, keyboardists Rodel Genon and Felipe Baga and percussionist Arnie Sabellano. Yes, the teachers' band also accepts invitations and other public functions. I wish the teachers' band good luck in its future engagements.

O, it is not true that 14 public school teachers coming from different districts all over Cebu are resigning en masse to become full-time entertainers. But it is true that these mentors are performing in a band without sacrificing their noble duty of molding the minds of the studentry. To me, the formation of the Department of Education Cebu Teachers' Band should be warmly welcomed by everybody as it affords its talented members the chance to showcase the other side of their persona.
