DepEd Region VII awards cash prizes to the student who bring awards and pride in a recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2009 held in Region VIII- Western Visayas. The awarding ceremony was held in Ecotech Center at Lahug Cebu City.

DepED Regional Directory Recaredo Borgania said the cash awards came from annual savings. The prizes have been a promised since last year. The gold medalist receives P5000 while the silver medalist got P3000. Bronze medalist received P2000. A Mandaue City student, Daniel Noval of the Labogo National HS received P12000 cash for winning various categories in track and field. Another multi category champion Loren Dale Echavez bring home P14000. This is one way of encouraging student to aim high in sports development.

Region VII finished 4th place in the Palarong Pambansa while NCR, Eastern Visayas and Southern Tagalog got the top 3 position respectively.
