Teacher's Should be Equip with a Caliber of Intelligence and a Vast Repertoire of Experiences

DepEd Supervisor and PrincipalsAcademic excellence is indispensable to a quality of education. Teacher in any public and private school should equip with a caliber of intelligence and a vast repertoire of experiences. He is an agent for change. Education lies in his capability to develop things into perspectives. In general, the teacher should be a model of everything.

Quality of education is very important nowadays. In order to upgrade the standard of the learning institution, see to it that the teacher-applicants must pass the criteria for eligibility issued by PRC through CHED, in support of DEP ED for approval. It’s hard to find ones at present with utmost dedication and integrity of their professions. That’s why the school must accept negative articles to whoever writers put them on a little bit ambiguity. The purpose is not to degrade or defame the school but to put it on a high pedestal by checking irregularities through constructive criticisms.

Integrity of the professions, as well as disciplines that will provide quality of education for the nation is consequently the fundamental mileage geared towards deregulation and reorientation of programs for teaching competencies. Integrity sustains professional upgrading or development not only of the professionals but also of the teachers through revitalization of existing school-based and structured-learning action cells. Entry to the teaching profession shall commence with a teacher profile program. A career progression scheme for teachers, administrators and specialists shall be developed. Relatively, this is the denouement of disciplines paving the way for academic excellence.

Filipino Teachers in STEPThe most important factor in attaining quality of education is the teacher for he is the central figure in all teaching activities and the child is the heart of the matter. The teacher takes over the starring role of leading the young under his charge to become useful, upright and law-abiding member of the society. The teacher’s role and responsibility is to serve as value developer, model and advocate. He acts as adviser, facilitator, friend, parent or even architect. In other words, the teacher is to be called an agent of change. The change that can forever help all the learners and even the people within the community to augment in terms of financial and physical aids for the benefits of everybody.

The teacher’s role, therefore, in our society is very wide enough and he is considered the most important factor in the attainment of quality of education. He possesses love, patience, kindness and understanding to the needs of the children and the community. He works well with the barangay officials, religious and civic leaders. He attends community assemblies, workshops and seminars. He encourages food production and acts as model to have tangible projects.

So, with many challenges that confront our country, let’s move forward in unity and strive for the improvement on the quality of education and for the realization of vision of the Philippines which means that education will not have only achieved that quality long-sought for and desired by everyone but most importantly, education by then will be globally competitive. Teachers are the implementers of the system. We should be proud of our teachers. Our future lies in them.

Soap Making as Part of OSY Program

Public schools students in Central Luzon will benefit from cash-in-soap program. The program is expected to provide livelihood to out-of-school youths while addressing the health concerns of pupils in public schools. The education chief believes that the soap-making venture can be a sustainable livelihood project.

The OSYs were trained on medicinal soap making by school health personnel who were trained by the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care.

"We are counting on some 12,300 OSYs to produce herb-based health soaps which we intend to distribute to schoolchildren suffering from various skin ailments in Tarlac and Pampanga, " he added.

Lapus was assigned to ensure and oversee the implementation of the various projects under the CLEEP in selected areas in Region III such as Tarlac and Pampanga.

In the soapmaking livelihood activity, each OSY is expected to earn P4,000 for making 2,000 bars of soap. The 20-day production period is expected to yield about 24.6 million bars.

The soap production is slated on April to June 2009. The soaps are expected to be given to student beneficiaries for school-year 2009 to 2010.

DepEd announces that teachers and non-teaching personnel will now have access to socialized housing at P300.000 maximum. It is known as Project Shelter with the partnership with Pag-IBIG Fund, the local government units (LGUs), and nongovernmental organizations Habitat for Humanity and Gawad Kalinga.

Under the project, LGU partners will identify and provide land (project site) as their assistance. They will also assign a housing officer to manage LGU socialized housing programs.

Meanwhile, the Habitat for Humanity and Gawad Kalinga will assist in the construction and provide a preschool for every teacher village. They will also spearhead in the values formation and skills development of the residents.

The total development and construction cost of socialized housing is placed at Php 300,000 at the maximum level. The loan will be payable in equal monthly amortizations at 6 % per annum. DepEd will facilitate loan repayment until the loan is fully paid. The loan maturity is 30 years.

Employee beneficiaries are permanent DepEd employees. A Filipino Short Story of Love

A Promise of Forever

It’s simply just a story of love where the Filipinos are the victims of tragedy, oppression, chaos, personal grudges and envy. It’s a story that currently gives us freedom to find someone whom we trust so much and make us blossom again with the help of Omnipotent Being.

KC Concepcion and Richard Guittierez in Cebu“Tuna sandwich?! Again?” I thought to myself as I
opened my lunchbox. Well, as usual, I’m sitting here in my table, alone without a care in the world. “Where is he?” I asked myself. Then the cafeteria door slammed open, and speaking of the devil, the devil is here. I thought he was going to come over, but he just looked my way as our eyes locked, and then he looked away. Ouch! Did that really happen?

That afternoon, I went to the library hoping I’d get a glimpse of him there in our usual “dating place,” the Fiction Area. Oh well, we both love to read. Anyway, when I got there, it seemed like my heart has been crumpled like a paper. He’s not there anymore. What happened? Did he completely forget me? Am I really nothing for him now? What did I do? Is it really over between us? Before I could formulate more questions in my mind, tears started to fall involuntarily. The damage has already been done, it’s over…

Weeks have passed and still no communication between us. He didn’t even dare to call me or even just send me a letter like he used to. He still looked my way at the cafeteria, but he never even tried to come over, not even once. I usually peep in the library, but I always find him there with another girl. It hurts to think that he replaced me with someone and what’s worse is that he brought her to a place where memories of “us” were once made. He doesn’t know it, but I’m still here living in the shadow of the past that we once shared. I couldn’t do anything but keep all the hurts to myself.

April 23 came. “Today, I thought to myself could have been our 2nd anniversary… but, it’s done and we’re over…” I couldn’t help but cry to myself as I reminisced those times when we were together. I wiped the tears off of my face and bravely made my way out of the comfort room and headed for our classroom.

Philippines Short StoryTo my surprise, he was there alone, sitting on his chair like he was in deep thought. I couldn’t make paint out of his face. I couldn’t even understand the facial expression that I was seeing. Is he in pain or is he just sleepy and tired? Did the two of them break up…with that girl I saw with him in the library? I was about to come over and comfort him when his jock friends got to him first. They surrounded and comforted him as he silently cried. I knew it! Something really is wrong. I’ve got to do something.

That same afternoon, I wanted to talk to him, even just for a small friendly talk. I couldn’t bear looking at him when I know he’s not okay. I just want to comfort him, that’s all. I was about to approach him when he walked past me and headed to the library. But this time, he’s alone. I watched him stay there for, like 5 minutes. And then he headed straight home. Or so I thought. And well, I followed him home.

I was thinking he’s turning right, but to my shock, he turned left. Where is he headed to? To the house of that girl? Out of my curiosity, I still continued to follow him. I don’t care if he’ll think of me as a stalker. Who cares anyway?

I was stunned! He’s going to the cemetery? But why? Who’s there? What’s wrong? Well, I know he’ll never talk to me, so I just continued to follow him. From afar, I could see him sitting in front of a grave. He was talking to himself, it was weird. I decided to get out of my hiding place and approached him. I just want to keep him company, at least, even just as a friend.

I was about to tap his back. But my eyes fixed on the name written on that piece of white marble. I was shocked! I was speechless! “Just Mary Jane McCool” Oh my God! Me?! That’s me?! I wanted to grab Jose’s arm but I couldn’t! I want to shout out loud and cry out to him but no sounds came out of my mouth. I’m helpless; I couldn’t do anything… but cry.

Then I heard Jose say, “Baby, we could have been 2 years now, I wish I didn’t leave you alone. If I were there with you that night, then you could have been saved from that bastard who took advantage of you! Babe, remember Chris? My girl neighbor, she was the one who helped me go through all of these. I know you would understand baby. But babe, I just want you to know that you are still the queen of my heart and will forever be. I still love you, I’ll never ever forget you, baby. Happy 2nd Anniversary! I love you baby…” he was crying as he said those words. Gosh… I wanted to hug him tightly but to no avail and tell him that I love him too…but I can’t. “Oh baby, I love you too…” I cried as I said those words over and over again wishing that he would hear me. But I know, deep within his heart, he knows how much I love him. It’s been 5 months since I died but our love for each other never ceased. Someday, I know he’ll find someone new, and I just want him to be happy…

But this I’ll promise… I’ll always be with him…forever.

Tula ng isang Mag-aaral sa Secondarya

PAALAM

Nang unang tumuntong sa paaralan
Pagakatakot at kasayahan ang nararamdaman,
Takot na mabigo at mahatulan,
Kasayahang makatagpo ng bagong kaibigan.

Kiming mga ngiti ang pinabaon,
Na mga taong binigay ng pagkakataon,
Walang sinayang na oras sa tsikahan,
Basta kaligayahan aming susundan.

Kasa-kasama umaga hanggang hapon,
Halakhak ang pag-iyak sa atin aahon,
Mga pangyayaring ating pinagdaanan,
Alam na natin at palaging matatandaan.

Ngayon'y huling taon sa eskwelahan,
Isang pagtatapos at isang pamamaalam,
Mananatili sa aking gunita at isipan,
Mga alaala at mga kaibigan

Hall of Fame in Teaching Profession

Evelyn Caja, a Special Education (SPED) Teacher and Master Teacher I in Ramon Magsaysay High School in Manila were conferred the 2009 Award for Continuing Excellence and Service (ACES). A pastor's daughter, Caja was keen on serving others early in life. But it was a blind girl she encountered in practical teaching that led her to pursue special education. Caja was inspired by the girl whose condition did not stop her from continuing her education.
Teacher Caja is the Principal for the Center for Developmental Intervention Foundation, Inc., at the Philippine Children Medical Center. She is also the national treasurer of the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators (NOTED), an organization of past and current SOT awardees.

Teacher Caja has been a SPED teacher particularly to the visually impaired for some 41 years now. Among the awards she has received after winning in SOT are: the 2002 Lingkod Bayan Award, Civil Service Commission, 2002 Thomasite Centennial International Visitor Award, Metrobank Foundation and the US Government; Finalist, 2003 Gawad Geny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino Award, ABS-CBN and UGAT Foundation; and the 2004 Outstanding Manilan Award
Today, teacher Caja is considered the 'Anne Sullivan'—tutor of the famous deaf blind author Helen Keller – of many students whom she has helped become productive and self-reliant individuals. Caja encourages fellow teachers to love their work and to continue to serve silently and sincerely.  "Without love, easy things become difficult. But with love difficult things become easy. Nothing is impossible when you love your work," she said.
