University of the Philippines

The only national university , the University of the Philippines System takes pride in becoming the leader in advanced schooling through academic excellence, outstanding research, public service, and modernized facilities.

Established in 1908, UP started as a small Manila campus along with only a few colleges. Over the years, UP has made a reputation for itself as a research and graduate university that produces scientific and creative outputs of the highest quality that receive each national and within international recognition. Today, the University is comprised of 7 constituent universities located in 12 campuses through the Philippine archipelago.

UP’s constituent colleges nurture the intellectual and cultural growth of the Philippine through 246 undergraduate and 362 graduate applications. No other educational institution in the country can match the scope and range of the University’s course offerings including almost all professions and embrace just about all interests and inclinations. 30 percent of its teachers have doctoral degrees and Forty two percent possess master’s degrees. The rest are working on the graduate studies.

UP’s student population of over 50,000 grows fastest in the liberal atmosphere that's part of the tradition of a UP training. And UP graduates have grown to be the country’s frontrunners in politics and governance, law, the sciences, and the arts.

To date, UP has created more than 25 National Scientists in areas as varied as history, engineering, science, agriculture, biophysical biochemistry, psychology, medicine, plant structure, genetics, and cytogenetics. But UP’s strength doesn't lie in its scientific hobbies alone: 30 out of Fifty National Artists named so far are UP alumni, originating from literature, the actual visual arts, music, dance, theater, movie, and architecture.

UP additionally maintains an exemplary performance record in professional licensure exams in areas such as law, accounting, medication, dentistry, pharmacy, chemistry, geology, engineering, environmental planning, education, library science, sociable work, nutrition and dietetics, interior design, structures, fisheries, agriculture, and so on.
