Guidelines on the Selection of Honor Pupils or Students

DepEd Order 92, s 2009

Revised Guidelines on the Selection of Honor Pupils and students in Public Elementary and Secondary

1. Candidates for honors at any grade or year level shall be drawn from the top 10 pupils/student of the school. They must not have a final grade lower than 80% in any subject.

2. To determine the top 10, the pupils/student shall be ranked using the 7-3 pts scheme. 7 Pts for academic and 3 pts for co-curricular activities as contained in enclosure nos. 1 and 2.

3. Grade in the previous curriculum level shall bot be considered in the ranking of honors for graduating pupils or students.

4. Only the grades in the current curriculum year shall be considered in the ranking of honor pupils/students. Transferees shall be considered in the ranking provided they are enrolled not later than the second week of classes of the current SY.

5. Final rating shall be computed to the 3 decimal places. In case of tie, candidates shall both be declared in the same honor ranking.

6. All candidate for honors must be of good moral character and have not been subjected to any disciplinary actions within the current SY.

7. Achievements of pupils/students in specific academic disciplines such as (Math, Sci, and Eng) and in special curricular areas shall be given recognition. (Athletics, arts and campus journalism).

8. School with specials curriculum programs (specials science, arts, sports, sped) shall select their own set of honor pupils/students.

9. Any member of the school selection committee must not be related to any candidates for honors.

10. The school head shall be the chairman of the school selection committee composed of at least 3 members from the teaching staff and shall make the final announcement of honor pupils/student after final results have been duly recommended and approved by the school head and/or school Superintendent respectively not later than 15 days before the recognition/commencement rites. Protest should be filed within 5 working days from the final announcement.

Hi... I hope you can help me on this.... regarding sa selection of honor students, no. 1 guideline "they must not have a final grade lower than 80%".... that this mean, sa lahat ng grading period (1st, 2nd, 3rd) or sa total average..... thanks.

It mean lahat ng grading period...Even when he or she is in the lower year.

Just a thought..... If i got a 79 on my first grading.... There is no hope that I can make it to the list of honors.....

naku ngayon ko lang nabasa 'to.ang nag-eenjoy lang dito ay yung mga anak ng mga politiko at ung mga malapit sa principal na pasipsip pa . .

Because of the 7-3 point scheme, top students are pushing their parents too hard financially to send them to trainings, seminars and conferences. It already comes out as a money contest. And many are making money out of this, right? Maawa naman kayo sa mga estudyante at mga magulang. Stop making profits out of the pretense of educating the youth.

im an adviser of section 1 in our school.... i just want to be clarified about selection of honor students...does it mean that the whole class be considered in the ranking of scholastic and extra?

what if the honor students from a neighboring school transferred in our school 3rd grading of the current school year, will she be qualified as honor student in our school?

hi,i want to share my experience being an honor student...
i transferred when i am in my fourth year then 1 month only,I stopped schooling because of financial matters,the following year I enrolled again,to make the story short,I felt sad when the deliveration of honors revealed,wala ang name ko...the reason daw is that nasa 4th-sec.2 ako at transferee pa that SY.as a student way back years ago,hindi ako nagcomplain,graduation comes and they call my name and I AM REALLY SURPRISED because, I got "SPECIAL HONOR" that school year, I beat the average of the Valedictorian,isn't it great?kelangan ipakita na talagang deserving ang lahat ng student,fair treatment to achieve good quality education....HAPPY and PROUD to say, I AM A TEACHER NOW.........

i believe that at least the grade 5 / 3rd year grades should also be given credit for consistency not only their grade 6 rating

Hello po gusto ko lang po maliwanagan tungkol dito, ang anak ko po ay 2nd Honors mula first grading up to 3rd grading period sa HS with an average of 96% up bakit this morning ay kinompute ang final grades nila ay bumgasak siya sa fouth place dahil sa computation ng co-curricular niya. Tama po ba ang computation n 1st honors ay 1st x7=7? 2nd x7=14? 3rd x7=21? when infact only .08% lng ang difference nila s first. Prsident din xa ng Medics Society at member/officer ng ibat-ibang org s school & outside of the school. Yon pong 2 n naging second at 3rd now a porke naging national player at RCPC pax ay biglang n overtakan ang bata e nakasabay din nila ang anak ko sa regional pero di lang pinalad n mapasama? Nawala n po ba yong nagbabracket tayo na 96-100% = 7 POINTS? 90-95.99= 14 POINTS? please anyone po would explain to me why? Salamat po.

I have some major issues regarding the mechanics in the determination of rankings of honor students. As cited by ensuyamin, said ranking system virtually disregards any incremental advantage of a student based on the percentage grade as percentage weights are applied not on the percentage grade but on the rank of the student. This means that even if a student gets a grade of 98% in academics, there is still a chance that he will be beaten by a student with a 90% grade in academics if the former ranks low, say rank no. 6 in extra-cur. and the latter ranks first in extra curr. My position is that, you cannot determine the final ranking of honor students based on their respective ranks in academics and extra curricular. Weighted average (at 70-30) should be the determination of the ranking.

sa nga namumuno at nasa posisyon sa lahat ng division at regional offices, sana lng maging fair kayo sa lahat ng mga taong nakakausap ninyo, at bago kayo magkomento at magbigay ng payo sa mga lumalapit na mga magulang, sana lng, kunin at pakinggan nyo rin muna ang panig ng mag teachers concern. hindi ung lagi na lang pinaiiral ang KAKILALA at KAMAG- ANAK SYSTEM, na kahit wala na sa tama ang magulang na nagrereklamo e nahatulan na agad ang mga guro! porke ba kakilala at kamag- anak, laging tama? bakit di man lng assess muna kung ano ang tunay at totoong sitwasyon? kawawa naman ang mga gurong nalalagay sa hotseat dahil sa mga kamag- anak ninyong abusado! wag ninyong hayaang gamitin ang inyong pangalan, dun kayo sa tama at sa kung ano ang nararapat? paano ang mga mas maraming bata at gurong walang kamag- anak, kakilala o kaibigan sa taas? matatapakan na lng ng ganun ganun na lang?

Hello. panu po pag sa isang school may special science class at regular class... tpos iba po ung ranking niya panu po pag isa na lng ang valedictorian .....

I don't think honors is important in the real sense of life. The real school starts after graduation. I know a lot who were consistent honor students when they were in school but really couldn't make it in real life. While those who used to be average and below just could live a prosperous life and much thriving...

I don't say we as parents should just be lax but my point is, honors and recognition does not measure the future of your kids. For me, the best legacy that we could give them is how to live the good values of life, become responsible citizens and followers of Christ. It spares us too much stress, pain, disappointment... The best tool your kids could ever have to survive and face his future...

so sa deped,pg transferee pla ang student kahit top 1 ka hinde ka makasali sa honors useless pala ang grades ng bata na pinagsikapan niya dahil sa guidelines na ito.tuwid ba na daan ang tinatahak niyo biktima dito mga transferee student din sila at deserve din nila mgka honors.bakit ganito patakaran niyo?kawawa mga student na excel sa klase pero transferee.

wala ba talagang corresponding points sa extra curricular yung mga batang naglalaan ng time para magpakita ng talent during district and division level affair? as in intermission lang ang lahat na iyon?

just wanna ask, talaga bang wala nang magagawa ang parent kundi nganga para maghabol kapag naalis ang bata sa ranking ng academics for honors dahil hindi napahintulutan na macompute ang marami nyang extra co-curricular na nakaabot up to regional level. wherein ang bata ay masyadong nagsikap na madala ang coach at school sa level na yun, samantalang wala naman silang ginawang consideration for giving extra grades nor tarpauline ay walei...sad talaga sa sistema nila...

May tanong lang Po ako. nag tapos po ako sa High school last 2008. sa school namin yung top 2 lang ang kinunan ng extra curricular activites. tapos nasa top 3 ako. 0.25 lang yung pagitan namin sa naka top 2. ang hirap po kasing balansihen ng Extra curricular activies at academic. Tama po ba ang ginawa ng school na top 2 lang ang kukunan ng etra curricular activities sa school year 2007-2007. may memorandom po ba doon. salamat po.

yes lahat ng grading period, dapat you will not have a grade below 80 in all learning areas para makasali ka sa selection of honor students. however, if you get a grade below 80 in any of the learning areas in any grading period, then you will be disqualified in the ranking of honors....i think so..............

pakisagot lang po....ano ba talaga ang coverage ng co-curricular activities? nalito talaga ako dito...Halimbawa, nag daos ng intramural ang iyong school, then sumali ka sa parlor games naging champion kayo, tapos sumali ka rin ng basketball at kung ano ano pang games sa intramural, ang tanung ko, credit ba ito as co-curricular activities? then, kada event ng laro ba sa intrams bibigyan ng points? Eh, kasi sa pagka intindi ko, ang CO CURRICULAR activities ay hard earned yon at di basta basta nalang kasi sa mga halimbawang co-curricular activities as presented...bigatin talaga like investigatory projects, quiz bowl,,etc. eh, pag may mga activities sa school gaya ng buwan ng wika naging emcee ka, acquaintance party naging muse ka,,, Is is also co-curricular activies? sana masagutan nyo po ito...............pls.............. Paalala lang, dapat mag isyo ang DEPED ng memo na e lista lahat ng mga events classified as co-curricular activities at sana rin e present sa parents before classes starts para alam na namin lahat kung ano ang mga co-curricular activities. eh kasi ang mangyari nito kahit sumasali ng mga programs sa school gaya ng intrams, acquaintance, buwan ng wika or any scholl activities lang ay magiging co-curricular activities na.....Liwanagin ninyo sana ang kung ano lang ang ma classify as xo-curricular....Dapat may mga listahan ng events parang kung sa pagkain pa ay MENU para guided kaming mga students at aming parents...
