Who are the Project Managers
PMP Certification Requirements
Project managers with additional PMP credentials are recognized by both employers and customers as leading experts in the field of project management. Aside from project management expertise, employers also believe that they can expect a much higher level of professionalism and ethical conduct from project managers with PMP certificates.
Basically, to be able to get certified you need to have the following PMP certification requirements:
A minimum of 36 months (3 years) project manager work experience is one of the major certification requirements. This 3-year work experience must be presented in conjunction with a bachelor’s degree. In the absence of a bachelor degree, a 5-year non-overlapping project management work experience may be presented.
PMP Formal Education
Completion of at least 35 hours of project management courses are another one of the major PMP certification requirements. These hours can be earned and completed through colleges offering project management education courses, online campuses, distant learning companies, or through project management seminars. A certificate of completion will be given to all who have finished the required 35-hour project management course.
The certification exam will be a mix of around 200 scored and un-scored question. Roughly 25 of the un-scored questions will be used to measure your depth of understanding. The exam will be computer-based and examiners are given 4 hours to complete the test. At the end of the 4-hour timeframe, the computer will automatically log each examiner out whether the exam has been finished or not. The passing exam score is at 61%.
Note that you must first meet the work experience and education requirements before you register for the PMP certification exam.
How Much Does the Exam Cost?
Prepare your payment for the computer-based exam which is between $400 and $500. The soon-to-be-phased-out paper version of the exam will cost you between $250 and $400. If for some reasons you’re unable to take the exam on the scheduled date, you will be issued a refund less a 100-dollar processing fee.
With the continuous above-average growth of the project management field and the great salary package that goes with it, thousands of project managers are now aiming to add a PMP certificate to their list of credentials so that they can be on par with other project managers or gain competitive advantage against some.
