Orientation Seminars on the Child Protection Policy

DepED Memo No. 107 S 2012

The Department of Education through the office of the undersecretary for Legal and Legilative Affairs, in coorperation with other government offices and non-government organizations will hold the Orientation - Seminars on the DepED Child Protection Policy.

The orientation seminars aim to raise awareness and train all school personnel especially school heads or principals and guidance counselors on the policy and guidelines on protecting children in school from abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination, bullying and other form of abuse.

The regional offices and division offices will be informed of the schedules and venues.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING WORKSHOP

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) in cooperation with the Philippine Sports
Commission (PSC) will conduct the Strength and Conditioning Workshop on July 4-6, 2012 at the Multi Purpose Arena, Philsports Complex, Pasig City.


The Workshop strives to appraise athletic coaches and trainers in schools, local
government units (LGUs), national sports associations the best and present facts about physical and mental toughness and conditioning including diet principles..

Quarterly Conduct of the National school-based Earthquake and Fire Drills


DepEd Order No 48 S 2012

The DepED with partner agencies, the DND, member of the National disaster Risk reduction Management Council, all public and private schools and DepEd offices and attached agencies are enjoined to undertake the Quarterly conduct of the National School Based Earthquake and Fire Drills.

The activity aims to generate the highest level of awareness among the public on disaster Risk Reduction/Climate Change Adaptations concerns and to assess the capacity level of the school and the community in the eventuality of disasters and emergencies.

All public and private schools are enjoined to be already with the following requirements for the conduct of the said activity:

  • School site development plan
  • School disaster management committee
  • Identification of high risk areas inside the school
  • Emergency preparedness evaluation and contingency plan and
  • communication and coordination plan with the LGus and Local DRRMOs

Offering of the Hontors Program in the Open High School

DepEd Student - Honor DepEd Order No 44 S. 2012

In line with this departments thrust of making basic education open and accessible to all learners, an honors program for top students entering Grade 7 in School Year 2012-2013 will be offered in the Open High School of private schools participating in the Education Service Contracting Program.

The students eligible for the Honors Program are those who;

a. belong to the upper 2% of the graduating class based on MPS in Grade 6 NAT or with an average in Grade 6 on 90% above.

b. Have the capacity for independent learning and
c. are willing to study in a private school

40,000 new slots are available on the first come, first service basis to the top 2% graduates of public elementary schools who wish to study in ESC participating private schools.

d. grade 7 (first year) beneficiaries of this program across all regions shall enjoy an all in grant in the amount of P6500. thus parents don't have to pay any tuition differential and miscellaneous fees.

e. In addition to the all ingrant, student beneficiaries who can demonstrate advanced level of proficiency shall be eligible for acceleration on a per subject basis.

f. Principals of public secondary schools especially those schools where there is serious overcrowding should meet with the parents of top performing students in order to convince them to put their children in the honors program of the OHS.

2012 Nutrition Month Celebration

Nutritional foodsEvery year, in the month of July, the National Nutrition Council lead the whole nation in the celebration of Nutrition Month,purposely to disseminate nutrition messages to all Filipino through a focal theme. For 2012, the them is Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain to focus on the promotion of vegetables and its nutritional benefits.

The INC launching event for the Nutrition Month Celebration will feature vegetable gardening in schools on July 2, 2012 to emphasize the importance of eating vegetabls as part o fa healty diat. All pulic elem and secondary scholls are encouraged to conduce simultatneous vegatble gardening on July 2 as well.

School administrators, teachers and non-teaching personnel are enjoined to participate in the month long celebration oby undertaking activities which will promote vegetable consumption and production in the schools. The actiities should also highlight the National greening program focused on poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation and Gulayan sa Paaralan project by participating in tree planting and growing activities and establishing vegetable gardens.
