Teachers Salary Increase

PUBLIC school teachers will enjoy a P9,000 salary increase to be given within three years if certain bills pending in Congress are approved.

House Bill 4734 and Senate Bill 2408 seek to give additional pay for teachers that would make their salaries “at par with those received by soldiers and policemen.”

The bills propose that all public school teachers, locally-funded teachers, Philippine Science High School system teaching and non-teaching personnel and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) with a salary grade level lower than 30 be entitled to the increase.

In latest development, the government announced last May that the salary increase for Government employees will increase by 1500 starting school year 2009-2010. However there are log of complain from teachers that the increase is still not release due to budget problem from DBM.

Many of our treachers in the field get involve their own pockets in the operational expenditures of DepEd such as repair of classrooms, repainting, buying school materials etc, procurement of makeshift rooms, despite of a meager or low salary they received. Same teachers' mishap should also be given attention by the DepED

let us look the duty and responsibility of a teachers. they work for the day and overtime for a night for some paper works.

I know, krisis ngayon.

Being a teacher, it's really not easy to be doing the job during the day and do the paper works at night such as making lesson plans, computing grades, consolidating the PHIL-IRI results, DAT, RAT, NAT, etc. making us teachers super men and super women and yet receive very low salaries. It really drains our health. Me,I already experienced being hospitalized because I always sleep late doing the job. I hope, those in the higher ups will be sensitive enough to the needs of the teachers like me.

Teaching staffs need the increase. Non- teaching staffs NEED NOT TO BE INCREASED. "Imagine how long they are all seated in their office even some canteen managers. Sometimes busy-"busy bisihan". Too easy for them to manipulate their subordinates-delegating the tasks which they should be the ones to start. Weigh things out.INCREASE FOR TEACHING STAFFS- Y E S! N O TO non-teaching staffs!!!Salamat sa pagbabasa ng aking opinyon.anonymousvoicefrmakati

i think its about time that we should be given priority. our job is not an easy job. even at home we are bringing our work. most of the teachers dont have time anymore for thier families or for themselves. if the authorities will just take a closer look at the real situation of teachers.its time that we would be compensated for the efforts we have done. instead of bringing up nonsense issues in the senate or legislative body, y not prioritize first our issues. that increase cannot make us rich or can compare to what they receive. so please give it to us.

In UP the starting salary if you are an engineer falls under the salary grade 13. We, under SUC, even if we are engineers starts at salary grade 12. So it is only proper to give us, the teachers, what we deserve to receive.

If UP can produce topnotchers, so are we. We already produced a topnotcher with 100 percent passing percentage for the 1st and 2nd batch who took the professional exam.

So treat us fair and square

The only way to salvage our reputation is to increase the salary of teachers... kasi ngayon parang ang liit liit ng tingin ng mga parents sa atin. palagi lang tayong may threat na kakasuhan... tayo namang mga teachers parang takot din... siyempre ano ba ang ibabayad natin sa abogado? expenses pa sa bahay? but if we will have teachers who have a decent living, maybe just maybe... we can regain the respect of the community..

Hi fellow educators..yes..very pathetic ang plight ng mga guro mapa public man o minsan, kahit mapa private.Kulang ang panggastos sa mga pang hospital at mga gamot sa atin pag tayo po ay nagkasakit out of over fatigue, pressure, problem sa take home pay, utang, high blood sa mga estudiante, walang kamatayang lesson plan, demo, observations, visual aids making etc. Yes these are part of a teacher's life..but ang sa atin lang naman ay ma compensate naman ung hirap at sacrifices by approving the proposed 9,000 increase..if only THEY cud read all these comments from us! God bless u all fellow teachers and just press on. Glory to God!

A competitive pay will encourage professionals from otherfields to enter education and beef up Philippine public education. We need new blood in our public education system, people from the private sector, to infuse to us public school teachers a culture of professsionalism, competitiveness, dedication, and service.

teacher's hubby said...

At least three congressmen are proposing that public school teachers and government nurses be entitled to a monthly salary of at least P25,000.

He said the pay rates of teachers and nurses, who now hold salary grade 11 with a basic monthly compensation of about P12,000, should be upgraded to grade 15 with salary of P24,887 in the proposed adjustment program.

teacher's hubby said...

Salary levels in government range from grade 1 to 33. The President holds the highest salary grade.

Under the proposed program, high-ranking officials such as the President would receive a 100-percent increase, while lower-ranking personnel would get 50 percent.

Thus, if the salary grade for teachers were not adjusted, they would get P18,549, or an additional P6,500.

In contrast, the President, Vice President and members of Congress would see their salaries doubled to P120,000, P103,000 and P90,000, respectively.

Congressmen work for only two to three hours a day for three days a week or from Monday to Wednesday.

The increases under the proposed pay adjustment program are supposed to be based on the principle of “equal pay for work of equal value” and were determined taking into account the government’s financial difficulties.

Are we to be raised from SG 10 to SG 11 starting this July 2009? I read it from one site.

And is another 10% increase bound to happen like the 10% increases last July 2007 and July 2008?

Pls clarify. Thanks.

teacher's hubby said...

Quirino Rep. Junie Cua, principal sponsor of Joint Resolution 36 as appropriations committee chairman, rejected proposals to further upgrade the salaries of teachers, nurses, soldiers, and policemen, who comprise the bulk of government workers.

Cua said the government is not in a position to fund such a huge adjustment.

Most of these teachers presently hold salary grade 11 with a basic pay of about P12,000 including allowances. They will receive an increase of about P6,500 over four years.

teacher's hubby said...

The House of Representatives approved last night a four-year salary upgrading program for government personnel, including teachers, soldiers and policemen.

The program that will benefit 1.1 million government workers is contained in Joint Resolution 36. The pay increase will be paid over the next four years starting on July 1 this year for workers in the national government and state corporations.
